APRIL    2008

Hello Members, Hope everyone is enjoying Spring!! Yea it has finally arrived, yes a little wet and cool, but hot dry days are just around the corner.  Speaking of hot, how about the Open gals, want to see where your horse is running with the heater dogs? They are leaving nothing behind when they head down that alley, Wow Wow Wee!!!

This is an information letter so I’ll get right to it:

1.     Hope you have made a note of the schedule change, be sure and check the web site, and I have also made some copies of the schedule that you may pick up at the sign up table.

2.     We are also having a Barrel race in the Dome in June 29 that is a Sunday after our regular race on the 28 of June.  Both races in Belton, just the one on Sunday is in the Dome with added money, I have also made copies of the flyer and those will be available at the sign up table.

3.     My church is sponsoring a barrel race at the Phillips Arena on FM 965, across from Sue Miller’s house, on Sunday April 20th, starting 10 am with exhibitions, 5-D, giving buckles and awards through 3rd place.  So please try and attend, Corey Ross will be preaching starting at 9am.

4.     Don’t forget our scholarship essay contest for all of our seniors, see Lynn Rich in the office for an application, and remember it is $1000 towards the college of your choice.

5.     Pee Wee parents, we voted at the membership meeting that each parent would pay a fee to go towards the bag for the assisted and non money winners unassisted. I heard myself a little girl bring her bag back and state that she didn’t like what was in the bag, if you would like to buy something to go in the bags as opposed to the fee, please feel free to do so, I’m sure it gets to be redundant for the kids as it does the board to find something fun to put in those bags.

6.     We want to thank NRS, for giving us the gift certificates and prizes at the Salado race, and if you get a chance to extend a personal thank you to each of our sponsors, it really helps us as an organization.

7.     Here is the amount of saddles we are giving, and they have been order:

Open—10     Youth---7    Poles---5    Novice---5    All Around –1  Pee Wee—1

8.     Fax entries- I know some of ya’ll are wondering how the system works.  Every entry has a time and date on the fax sheet, so even if you choose to fax in at 12:01, that does not always mean you will be the very first, we have offered to our board members the opportunity to fax their forms in on Sunday, that is the only benefit that we have gotten for the long days and hours at the computer before and after the race,  so if you fax an entry in at 5am, there could be 30 ahead of yours, and if you fax an entry in on Tuesday and want in the top 50, that will not be possible. Jamie usually has 80 by 10AM on Monday, so if you’re faxing in Monday afternoon or Tuesday, you very likely will not get in the top 75.  I am not sure what the remedy will be to get you in on the desired number you request, but you have to be realistic in your desire of what number you want and what time you send the fax.   Saturday in Salado, the ground just got faster as the day went on.  Jamie will from now on will unplug her fax till 5AM Monday and will put the entries down in the order received.  I know that everyone has different desires and request, running 4 or 5 horses and wanting at least 20 in between and Jamie does not mind working with anyone for any special request. She has been good to email or call back to let everyone know where they are running. So if something needs to be checked on, email her.

9.     And last, we really want to hear from you, if you have a complaint, let me know. If you have suggestions write it down and give it to Lynn. If you have a compliment, we take those also.  We as the board work hard for all the members and we appreciate you coming to compete with us and making this the toughest barrel race in Central Texas.
